PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Light Lab handles information when you use our iPhone app and website. It is written to meet Apple App Store requirements and applicable privacy laws.

EFFECTIVE DATE · AUGUST 26, 2026 · LAST UPDATED · AUGUST 26, 2026

1. Who we are

Light Lab is published by nomos industries inc (“we,” “us,” or “our”), based in San Francisco, California, United States.

This policy applies to:

  • the Light Lab mobile application for iPhone (the “App”); and
  • our website at thelightlab.online (the “Website”).

Privacy contact: privacy@thelightlab.online

2. Summary

The App does not collect personal data. Light Lab has no user accounts, no app backend, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs that receive your information. Camera, location, and photo access are used only for on-device features. Nothing from those permissions is transmitted to us.

In App Store Connect, we declare Data Not Collected for the App. Section 4 explains why that declaration is accurate.

3. Information we do not collect

Through the App, we do not collect, receive, store on our servers, sell, rent, or share:

  • name, email address, phone number, or other contact information;
  • precise or coarse location;
  • photos, videos, or camera recordings;
  • health, financial, or other sensitive categories of data;
  • contacts, calendars, browsing history, or files outside what you explicitly save;
  • usage analytics, diagnostics, crash reports, or advertising identifiers sent to us;
  • device identifiers for cross-app tracking or profiling.

We have no servers that receive App user data. We cannot access your meter readings, assignments, pins, or lesson progress.

4. On-device processing (not transmitted to us)

The App requests certain iOS permissions so features work on your iPhone. Processing happens locally on your device. We do not receive the underlying data.

Camera

Used to measure ambient light for the Meter. Camera input is processed in real time on your device to calculate exposure values. We do not receive, record, or transmit camera frames. If you deny camera access, Practice Mode provides built-in scenes.

Permission string shown in iOS: “LIGHT LAB uses the camera to measure the light in front of you and help you choose photography settings.”

Location (When In Use)

Used to show your position on Field Guide maps and to start new pins at your current spot. Location is processed on your device and is not sent to us. If you deny location access, you can still browse guides, pack assignments, complete finds, and file work.

Permission string shown in iOS: “LIGHT LAB shows a you-are-here dot on the Field Guide map and starts new pins at your current spot. Your location never leaves this device.”

Photo Library (Add Only)

Used only when you choose to save a meter learning preview to your Camera Roll. The App does not read your existing photo library unless you initiate a save. We do not receive photos you save.

Permission string shown in iOS: “LIGHT LAB can save your meter learning preview to your Camera Roll when you choose Save.”

5. Data stored locally on your device

The App stores information on your iPhone using local on-device storage so it works offline. This may include:

  • app preferences (signal color, appearance, text size, learning level, camera profile, guide settings);
  • lesson progress;
  • Field Guide journal entries, assignment status, find checkmarks, and passport stamps;
  • saved map pins and optional photos attached to pins.

This information stays on your device. It is not synced to our servers because we operate no App backend. You control it entirely.

6. Third parties

The App does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising networks, crash-reporting tools, or social SDKs that collect user data.

Apple. The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect information related to your App Store account, device, and purchases under Apple’s own privacy policy. We do not receive your payment card details from Apple.

We do not share App user data with parent companies, subsidiaries, partners, or service providers because we do not collect App user data.

7. Tracking

We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. The App does not use the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt because we do not engage in tracking as defined by Apple.

8. How to revoke consent and delete data

Revoke permissions

You can turn off Camera, Location, or Photo Library access at any time:

Settings → Privacy & Security → [Camera / Location Services / Photos] → Light Lab

The App continues to work with reduced functionality as described in Section 4. Paid features, if any, do not require you to grant these permissions.

Delete App data

  • Delete everything: Remove Light Lab from your iPhone (long-press the app icon → Remove App, or Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Light Lab → Delete App).
  • Reset lessons only: Open Settings in the App → Learning → Reset Lesson Progress.

Because we do not hold copies of your App data on our systems, uninstalling the App is the complete deletion method for data stored locally on your device.

9. Data retention

We do not retain personal data from the App because we do not receive it. Locally stored App data remains on your iPhone until you delete it or uninstall the App.

10. Security

App data is protected by your iPhone’s operating-system security (device passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, and encryption). We do not operate servers storing App user data.

11. Children’s privacy

Light Lab is designed for photography learners of all ages, including use with a parent or teacher. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age. Because the App collects no personal information, there is no children’s data for us to store. If you believe we have received information about a child in error, contact privacy@thelightlab.online.

12. International users

Light Lab is operated from the United States. Because the App does not transmit personal data to us, no international transfers of App user data to our systems occur.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data. Because we do not collect or hold App user data on our systems, we cannot provide copies of data we do not possess. You may contact us with any privacy question at privacy@thelightlab.online.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by California law. We do not collect personal information through the App. You may contact us with privacy questions at privacy@thelightlab.online.

13. Website (separate from the App)

The Website is a marketing site and is separate from the App’s data practices.

If you join the email waitlist on the homepage, your email may be stored in your browser’s local storage on that device only — it is not automatically sent to us today. If we begin collecting email addresses in the future, we will update this policy before doing so and describe retention and your choices.

Our Website host may process standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to operate and secure the site. That information is not linked to App usage.

14. Purchases

If the App is offered for a fee or includes in-app purchases, payment is processed by Apple. We do not receive your payment card information. Refunds and purchase history are handled through your Apple ID account.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy at https://thelightlab.online/privacy and update the “Last Updated” date at the top. If changes materially affect how the App handles information, we will update our App Store disclosures as required.

Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
